Pictures from the Society of Ancients Games Day

On 4th September 2004, the Society of Ancients held their annual Games Day.  The venue was the public halls in Harpenden:  very light and airy, and with an excellent canteen!

As the aim was to provide a forum where people could try and play as many different games as possible, I decided that rather than fight one big battle, I would set up two tables, bring six armies, and try and get as many people playing a game as possible.

In the event, we managed five games, an impressive performance as we also had to find time to attend the SoA AGM:

  1. Egyptians vs Assyrians (a win for the Egyptians)

  2. Early Hoplite Greeks vs Sassanid Persians (a draw)

  3. Egyptians vs Assyrians (another win for the Egyptians)

  4. Asiatic Successors vs Sassanid Persians (a win for the Successors)

  5. Asiatic Successors vs Sassanid Persians (another win for the Successors)

My thanks to all the players, and to the SoA for organising another fine event.

Charge

Sassanids verses Early Hoplite Greeks.  The upshot of all these charges was that the Spartans kebab-ed the cataphracts to the south, but the cataphracts rolled over the lesser trained hoplites to the north!
