Robert Avery's 15mm Egyptians
|
My 15mm Egyptian army is approaching 900 points strong. It's divided into two divisions: the division of Amun, whose basic colour scheme is dark blue; and the division of Ra, whose basic colour scheme is red. Each division consists of three brigades and is headed by a SubGeneral with his bodyguard base. The first brigade of each division is the chariot brigade: a mix of three normal and two guard chariot bases. The second brigade is an infantry unit consisting of two bases of spear, two bases of archers and a single base of axemen. They usually deploy with the close combat troops in the front and the unshielded archers behind. The final brigade in each division consists of lighter troops: a base each of mounted scouts, light archers, Nubians, javelinmen and marines. I began the army using Essex figures, but then gradually switched to using Chariot figures (now owned by Magister Militum) for the foot. Although I dislike the Chariot mounted and chariot figures, I think their infantry is much better animated than the Essex foot, who tend to look like clothes shop manikins. This is particularly true of the archers, spearmen and axemen. Leaders are either on foot or in chariots, with SubGenerals mixing gold with their dominant colour. Pharoah himself rides in a super-size, pimped-up chariot with a lion running alongside. I represent bodyguard bases with fantasy Egyptian troops, also from Chariot/Magister Militum. So far I have crocodile-, dog- and snake-headed troops, but plan on adding cat- and bird-heads in due course. Click on the thumbnail to see the full size image: |
