Robert Avery's 15mm Assyrians
|
My 15mm Assyrian army totals around 925 points. It is carefully divided into different troop types, each with their own colour scheme. Top of the pile are the Officers and Qurubuti Guard in purple. Next are the Kisir Sharutti line troops: heavies in red, mediums in blue. Next are the Sab Sarri militia in green. Finally there are the Dikut Mati levy in yellow. On the battlefield, the majority of the army is brigaded by arm i.e. into groups of either infantry or cavalry. Generally each infantry or cavalry brigade will have a core Kisir Sharutti base backed up by lesser quality troops to provide numbers. The chariots are used either to bulk out a cavalry brigade or kept separate from the other units and used as a fast-moving reserve or a hard-hitting extra attack at the schwerpunkt. The trick when using my Assyrian army is to pin the opposition with the infantry (a screen of Dikut Mati levy archers really helps here) and then hit him in the flank with the cavalry: rolling him up and delivering the coup de grace with the chariots. As most bases are half melee and half missile troops, you are not strong enough to match a full brigade of either sort in a straight up fight: you have to be proactive and use the pin-flank-attack tactics described above. The majority of the figures used are from Essex, with a smattering of Chariot Miniatures (now sold by Magister Militum) thrown in. I prefer the Essex mounted and missile troops, but the Chariot standard infantry. Click on the thumbnail to see the full size image: |
